Each year NOSAMS hosts several undergraduate and graduate
students, post-doctoral associates
or Summer Student Fellows through the Academic
Programs office of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
Since 2006, NOSAMS has awarded two NSF-supported
internships to qualifying graduate students (see Graduate
Student Internship) annually.
Investigators and students who want to use radiocarbon analysis
as an important tool in their work, come to NOSAMS for use
of our facilities and to train with our scientific and technical
staff. Often these collaborations lead to new methods and
interesting new ways of using the radiocarbon isotope in carbon
studies. Some examples of past and current projects are:
age surveys of deep sea corals
lignin extracted from lake sediments
formaldehyde in ambient air
age survey of surface sediment organic matter
